The first entity we will visit as part of this tour will be the Ananuri fortress. It is impossible to miss when traveling from the capital of Georgia to the north, to the Russian border, or in the opposite direction. After all, it is on the Georgian Military Highway, which connects the two countries. It consists of several towers, city walls, the church and the belfry.
All these buildings built in different centuries have survived in excellent condition. And the highest tower of the fortress offers stunning view of the temple and Zhinvali reservoir. Especially beautiful to be here in the period from May to August, when all the riot of greenery surrounding the reservoir, being reflected, gives a wonderful emerald green hue to its waters.
After passing further to the north we will cross the famous ski resort Gudauri and from the bus windows will have a chance to see its infrastructure.
And the culmination of our tour will be climbing to Gergeti church which offers a magnificent view of Mount Kazbek. It is one of the highest in the Caucasian ridge (elevation 5033 m). That is why the top of Kazbek covered with snow year-round. The best time to visit it is the summer and autumn, when the snow-capped peaks contrasted favorably with the variety of colors of surrounding nature.
