In 20 minutes north of Batumi, on the Black Sea, is comfortable located «evergreen» Chakvi. This health resort village is literally surrounded by greenery. And this is not surprising, because subtropical climate, with the required amount of heat and moisture, contributing to it. Bamboo, all kinds of palms, ferns and cypresses — all grow here.
An eucalyptus aroma, which is felt especially after the rain, could be catch just approaching Chakvi. And this village is called the capital of Georgian tea, because once there were several tea factories and tea plantations can be seen even nowdays. And even the very name of Chakvi is consonant with the name of this wonderful drink.
Infrastructure
As in all small villages and towns of the Black Sea coast of Adjara local infrastracture is moderately developed. You will not find such an abundance of luxury hotels, a variety of entertainment and leisure activities of choice as, for example, in Batumi. But, at the same time, rest, comfort and accommodation to “a solid four” will provide you a variety of hotels, cafes, bars, restaurants and all sorts of clubs. And for fans of “wild holiday” here are provided specially equipped places.
Attractions
The most important attraction of Chakvi is the nature. Clear sea, fresh mountain air with a fruit-berry flavor and, of course, the Botanical Garden, adjacent to the village on the south side. As one of the largest in the world (an area of over 100 hectares) it has incorporated the best of flora from all five continents.
Crimean pine and deodar, soap tree and evergreen sequoia, various types and forms of magnolias, cacti, and many other plants coexist peacefully here since the foundation of the garden in 1912.
