The next point of the trip will be the administrative center of the Samtskhe-Javakheti — Akhaltsikhe town. And there we will visit Rabat fortress - a magnificent constraction that witnessed many battles. Repeatedly partially destroyed and later recovered, it acquired its present appearance in the course of an extensive renovation in 2012. And today fortress boasts historical museum, a small park, a church and a mosque all located on its territory.
And we conclude this eventful day by a picnic and a visit to the grandiose cave complex of Vardzia. Its construction began in the XII century. During the reign of George III, father of the famous Queen Tamar. More than 600 rooms, interconnected with all sorts of passages, streets and tunnels carved into the cliff, amaze and astonish thousands of tourists who come here from around the world. Today, as a few centuries ago, the monks reside in the territory of Vardzia.
